Attorney Profile : Joseph P. Bauer
| Joe, the founding partner of the law firm
was born in Milford, Delaware in 1943. He and his family moved to Springfield,
Vermont, in 1945. He attended schools in Springfield and then graduated from
Marionapolis Prep School in Thompson, Connecticut, in 1961. Joe earned a BA
degree from the University of Vermont in 1966. Following graduation from
college, Joe worked in the insurance industry in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania for five years. Joe returned to Vermont with his family in
1971, where he read for the bar. |

Joe was admitted to practice in Vermont in 1975.
Following his admission to practice, he immediately became a partner in the firm
of Bing, Bauer and Cain which had offices in Burlington and Grand Isle, Vermont.
In addition to his private practice, from 1977 through 1979, Joe served as
Deputy State’s Attorney for Grand Isle County. Joe and the Firm established an
office in North Hero in 1984 and an additional office in Colchester Village in
1993. Joe has served as the managing partner of the Firm since its beginning in
1975 and oversees the day to day operation of all three offices as well as
attending to his practice.
Joe’s practice is diverse and varied.
Generally, he practices all aspects of business law, banking law, and zoning and
municipal law. Business litigation or commercial litigation consumes a
substantial amount of Joe’s time. Both residential and commercial real estate
are areas where Joe finds his plate full. Finally, estate planning and probate
are two areas in which Joe excels.
Joe is a member of the Chittenden and
Franklin/Grand Isle Bar Associations, the Vermont Bar Association, the New
England Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Since his admission
to the Bar, Joe has participated actively in his profession and held the
following positions: Chair of the Vermont Young Lawyers Bar Review Course
Committee 1975-1979; Member of the Committee for Continuing Legal Education from
1984 to present and chair of that Committee from 1986 to 1996. Joe has also
served as a member of the Board of Directors of the New England Bar Association
from 1994 to 1997.
In addition to serving his profession, Joe
has also contributed to his community serving as a member of the Burlington
School Board from 1980 to 1984 and as chair from 1983 to 1984; as a member of
the Colchester School Board from 1990 to 1993 and as a member of the Colchester
Land Trust from 1995 to present and as chair of that Board from 1997 to the
present. Joe has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the
Vermont Attorneys Title Corporation from 1993 to the present.
