| John joined the Firm in the spring of 2009, and operated the Law Office
of John J. Balkunas, Jr., Esq. in Grand Isle Vermont from February 2008
until May 2009.
Attorney
Balkunas earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the Seton Hall School of
Law in 1994, after receiving a Bachelor's degree from Rutgers College,
Rutgers University in 1991. |

Between 1995 and 2001 he operated his own
law practice in New Jersey, focusing primarily in corporate, bankruptcy,
personal injury, landlord-tenant, and discrimination law. During this
time, he also acted as "of counsel" to Leonard H. Adoff, Esq., P.C.,
handling their bankruptcy cases. Between 2001 and 2003, following his
relocation to Vermont, Attorney Balkunas was employed as a Social
Security Administration and Medicaid disability adjudicator. He was the
senior litigation attorney at a South Burlington, Vermont law firm from
March 2003 until February 2008.
His legal
career began as a law clerk for Spadoro & Vella, where he worked between
1991 and 1995 before starting his New Jersey practice. Prior to
commencing his legal career in 1991, Attorney Balkunas owned and
operated Synthesis Computer Services and the Synthesis Bulletin Board
System where he worked as a computer network consultant, technician, and
programmer.
Attorney
Balkunas now focuses on representation of businesses and individuals in
Social Security Disability, Personal Injury, Corporation, LLC and
Partnership, Condominium and Homeowner Association, Collection,
Foreclosure, Repossession, Bankruptcy, Landlord-Tenant, Residential and
Commercial Real Estate, Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning, and Appellate
matters.
He is a
founding board member and Secretary of the Green Mountain Animal
Sanctuary, an originating member of the Vermont Animal Cruelty Task
Force, and a former board member of the Franklin County Humane Society.
In addition, Attorney Balkunas is a former member of the Mad River Glen
and Smugglers' Notch ski patrols. He holds certifications in First Aid
and C.P.R. (American Red Cross), C.P.R. for the Professional Rescuer &
A.E.D. (American Heart Association), and Outdoor Emergency Course
(National Ski Patrol). Besides law, his interests include skiing, snow
boarding, hiking with his two English Mastiffs, boating, surfing, and
staying current on the latest computer trends and technology.
